Our region is rich in macadamia production and with it comes tonnes of husks and shells that are often treated as waste.

At Oreco Group, we’ve made it our mission to close that loop. With the regions change over from Sugar Cane farming to Macadamia, Oreco Group are continually seeking out ways to grow and support the industry wherever we can. We transform macadamia husk into high-quality compost for farmers and process the shell for biomass fuel - delivering real, sustainable outcomes for the region.

Healthy soil, healthy trees. It all starts from the ground up - that’s why we turn macadamia waste into clean, quality compost farmers can trust.
Healthy soil, healthy trees. It all starts from the ground up - that’s why we turn macadamia waste into clean, quality compost farmers can trust.

Recently, we welcomed a film crew representing the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) as part of their national project to encourage compost use on farms. It’s a project that fits perfectly with what we’re already doing: helping farmers improve yields, protect soil health, and support the future of Australian agriculture through responsible composting practices.

But here’s where we stand apart and why farmers trust us.

Too often, compost producers bulk up their product with waste from grease traps, commercial bins, or other contaminants to cut costs. That means you’re not just getting compost - you’re buying a cocktail of unknown inputs that can lock up nutrients, harm root systems, and damage soil over time.

We don’t believe in cutting corners.

No contaminants, no added rubbish.

Moisture-controlled product - no paying for excess water.

Consistent, clean material that delivers real results.

Clean, well-made compost feeds your soil, improves structure, boosts nutrient uptake, and helps trees grow stronger for longer. Contaminated compost might seem cheaper upfront, but it costs you in reduced yields and long-term soil health.

And it’s not just the husk we’re putting to good use. We also process the macadamia shell for use as biofuel, providing a renewable energy source for customers who want a cleaner, more sustainable alternative to traditional fuels. It’s another way we’re making sure nothing goes to waste and every part of the crop supports a circular economy.

We’re proud to work alongside farmers, industry leaders, and government to push for better composting standards because the future of farming depends on it.

Why does it matter?

  • Healthy compost improves soil structure, nutrient availability, and water retention.

  • Clean inputs protect your orchard from harmful buildup and nutrient lockout.

  • Consistency means predictable performance season after season.
