GROWING HINTS

REPOTTING

  1. Water plants thoroughly prior to potting.

  2. Select a new pot which is slightly larger than the original.

  3. Remove the plant from the old pot and remove any dead roots.

  4. Fill the pot with sufficient potting mix to leave the root ball 2cm below the rim of the pot.

  5. Place the plant in the centre of the pot and fill the pot with potting mix. Firm down gently to ensure all spaces are filled with potting mix.

FERTILISING

Add fertiliser at the time of potting and then on a regular basis. A granular fertiliser can be applied to the surface of the pot and should be repeated every month. Alternatively a slow release or controlled release fertiliser can be used. These will last from 2 to 6 months depending on the type selected.

Liquid fertiliser can also be used. Liquids will need to be repeated approximately once a month during the active growing months. When using fertiliser products, read the directions on the pack and follow the recommended rates.

WATERING

Regular watering will be required. In hot, dry weather watering may be required daily. In cooler times weekly watering is usually sufficient. When watering it is important to fully recharge the water holding capacity of the mix. To do this, sufficient water needs to be applied. As a general guide 250ml of water will be required for every litre of potting mix in the pot.
